Getting in and settled
- Your door code arrives in your Airbnb messages before check-in. It works only for your stay.
- The entrance is at the front of the house. The suite is yours alone.
- Gear goes in the storage room under the stairs. Wet layers can go straight in the washer and dryer.
- Robes, sauna hats and towels are in your closet. Your Nordic Escape water bottle is yours to keep.
- Sauna sessions: sauna time comes in two-hour blocks, enough for three rounds of heat, cold and rest. Reply in Airbnb chat with the times you would like and we will lock them in. Need something different? Just ask, we can make it work.
How to start it

- Open the gate. Enter your gate code on the courtyard keypad. It only works during your booked sessions.
- Power on. Press the power button on the control panel beside the door.
- Set it. Temperature to 90°C, timer to 60 minutes.
- Wait about 30 minutes. Go back inside, get your robe and hat on, fill your water bottle.
- When you are done, switch it off, close the door and the gate behind you.
The panel buttons can be finicky. Press firmly and hold for a second. If it will not cooperate, message us and we will walk you through it.
Sisu SEE-soo · Finnish
Quiet grit. The resolve to sit with discomfort, and come out better for it.

- Heat, 10 to 20 minutes. Cedar heat up to 90°C. Please keep water off the stones. First time? Start with 10.
- Cold, 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Summer: the cold tub. Winter: roll in the snow. Any time: a cold shower or the bath.
- Rest, 15 to 20 minutes. Robe on, water bottle in hand, in the reading chair.
- Repeat two or three times.
Drink water before and after. Skip the sauna if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, or have been drinking alcohol. Never sauna alone if you feel unwell, and get out the moment you feel dizzy.
Kylpy KOOL-pu · Finnish
The bath. In Finland, the cold rinse completes the ritual.

After your sauna session, take the shower cold. Thirty seconds is real. Two minutes is Finnish.
Summer: the cold tub is set up for the season. Winter: do it the Finnish way and roll in the snow.
Robes and towels are in your closet for the stay. Eucalyptus bath salts are under the sink if you would rather go warm tonight. Both count.
Fika FEE-ka · Swedish
A deliberate coffee pause. Permission to slow down, ideally with something sweet.

Coffee and tea are included and waiting at the coffee bar, with mugs in the cupboard above. There is a welcome treat in the tin by the machine.
In Sweden, fika is never at your desk. Sit down, put the phone away, and actually taste it.
Ro roh · Danish, Norwegian
Stillness without effort.

The chair in the corner of the bedroom is the best seat in the house for the rest step. Robe on, a book, nothing to do.
The puzzle lives on its own board, so you can slide it aside for dinner. Finish it, or leave it a little further along for the next guest.
The guestbook is on the shelf, or sign the digital guestbook. We read every page.
Samvær SAHM-vair · Danish, Norwegian
Togetherness. Simply being in the same room.
The cribbage board and cards are in the bench. The TV knows all the apps, but a game of crib has started more arguments and more laughing. Your call.
Skunked someone? Write it in the guestbook. It counts.
A desk for the work you brought
The point is to escape, but we get it. A fold-out desk is in the closet. Set it up by the window, answer what you have to, then fold it away and go find the water.
